The penultimate event of the American Championship on the legendary Laguna Seca raceway has just ended. It was not a great weekend for the #912 Porsche 911 RSR that ends up with a seventh place. Laurens Vanthoor got a brilliant start, overtaking 3 rivals, resulting fifth at the first lap right behind the #911 sister car, currently led by Patrick Pilet. Everything seemed to go for the best with both Porsches close to the leaders, when the Dutch was hit by a prototype that threw him back three positions. At the driver change, Gimmi tried to recover the gap by taking advantage of “full course Yellow” and a better strategy at the pit stop. But the latter is fatal because during FCY mode the pit lane is first opened to prototypes and then to GT cars, the #912 did go in the pit together with prototypes for a mistake of orders from the boxes and had to pay a penalty of 60 seconds, eliminating any chance of good placement. Gimmi leaves California so disheartened looking forward to redeem at Atlanta for the last round with the 10h of Petit Le Mans on October 7th.
