2nd place for Porsche 911 RSR #91 with Rothmans livery at the legendary endurance race of Le Mans for Gimmi Bruni, Richard Lietz and Fred Makowiecki.
Porsche motorsport celebrates a P1 and P2 with the victory of the sister car driven by Laurens Vanthoor, Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen.
Notes from Le Mans: The long week at Le Mans starts soon on Monday before the race when drivers have to compel to do some scrutineers and attend meetings and debriefings. Then Wednesday and Thursday are qualifying days. Three rounds are set for the drivers to score the best lap on the tradition-steeped 13.626-kilometre racetrack one of the longest in the world.
The Italian’s record-breaking time of 3:47.504 in the Rothmans-liveried No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR went unchallenged through the final qualifying run on Thursday night.
Gimmi’s lap was 1.593 seconds faster than Michael Christensen’s second-placed No. 92 “Pink Pig” Porsche, which confirmed a front-row lockout for the manufacturer. A perfect lap never done before with a GT car.
Friday is dedicated to the parade held in the centre of Le Mans where all the drivers stroll through the streets, tossing gifts, candy, autograph cards, and hats to thousands of wild fans.
But Lets move to the race weekend. Saturday at 15:00 the engines start the 24hours. Gimmi Bruni starts the race, every driver is supposed to do 1 double stint (every stint is about one hour). After the first 2 hours he leaves the wheel to Fred Makoviecki who fights to keep the leading but what happens at the end of his stint is what compromised all race. In fact at the second double stint the sister car, the Porsche 911Rsr #92 does the pit stop one lap before the #91 and before all the other GT cars which opted all to come in one lap later, when a second safety car stopped them in the pit and giving to the Porsche 911 RSR n 92 a three-minute advantage that went uncontested for the remainder of the race. It was frustrating knowing that whatever pace you could have, never chance could be possible for the win.
By the way, Gimmi has once again showed his high performance and he is sure that without this problem of safety cars which ruined the race, he coud have won. especially because the battle that his car went through all race with Ford showed the real game.
